Team Fees

The Piranha competitive swim program is affiliated with both the National YMCA and United States Swimming (USA Swimming). Our Local Swimming Committee is Connecticut Swimming, Inc. (CSI). The fees indicated for our program are reflective of the Club’s participation in both programs and are required of all participants.

YMCA Membership

The Y membership fees are used for covering the actual YMCA facility expenses. All Team participants are required to have a  YMCA membership and are eligible to participate in YMCA Dual meets, YMCA State Championships and YMCA Nationals. House Swimmers who are members of the Y will also be entitled to compete in YMCA dual meets.

Training Fees

This fee covers the coaches’ salaries and administrative cost.

*Members of P105/P120 training groups are required to have a fully stocked equipment bag for training purposes. The head coach will select essential items.

PPA Dues

PPA dues cover a wide array of important Team expenses not covered by training fees.  Included are funds for Team spirit building social events (eg holiday parties, age group socials, post-practice feasts on the lawn), subsidy for our annual banquet, Team banner, and Team T-shirts for championships.

USA Swimming Fees

United States Swimming is the national governing body for swimming in the United States. Every Piranha swimmer is required to annually register with USA Swimming in order to participate in these meets, as well as be insured while participating in practices.

Meet Fees

All swimmers are required to pay an amount for each event entered at a meet.

Meet fee expenses will depend on the number of meets and events a swimmer enters throughout the year, even if the swimmer scratches after the entry has been sent to the host.  Meet fees will be charged by the Y on the first day of each meet in which a swimmer is entered and will vary in amount per swimmer depending on the particular meet and the number of events entered.  A credit card must be on file in the swimmer’s Y account to cover these fees.  No Y account will be permitted to go into arrears.  A receipt for the payment will be emailed to each family.

Volunteer Fee

The Piranha swim team depends on team parents to provide timing assistance at meets, both at home and away.  Each family pays a volunteer fee at registration which is refundable to them if the minimum timing requirements for that year have been met by each family.

*USA Swim Officials who are parents of swimmers do not have to pay the family volunteer fee.

Insurance Statement

The Darien YMCA does not provide accident insurance for injuries sustained during YMCA activities. Participants in programs use the facility at their own risk. Members are encouraged to have personal medical insurance coverage.

Withdrawal from the Team

After the season begins, a swimmer (this includes high school swimmers) who withdraws from the team two weeks (or less) after the first day of scheduled practice will forfeit 25%  of the total annual training fee for that swimmer’s assigned group.  Example:

Bronze annual training fee $1520 x 25% = $380 forfeit. Because the initial payment was 30% of training fees ($456) the refund amount would be $76.

Paid PPA fees and volunteer fees are 100% refundable.  All refunds will be arranged as online credits to the appropriate Y family account.  A check refund will incur a $20 administrative fee.  If the swimmer starts mid-year, the same policy applies, ie two weeks from the swimmer’s start date for the current season.  After two weeks, no refunds of any kind will be offered.

Short season swimmers will have one full week from commencement of their respective season to receive a refund of 25% of their training fee payment.
